Ford GT

The 2005 Ford GT is a remarkable mid-engine sports car that pays homage to the iconic Ford GT40, a legendary racer that clinched four consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966 to 1969, including a memorable 1-2-3 finish in 1966. Crafted in conjunction with Ford’s 2003 centenary, the first-generation Ford GT was produced for the 2005 and 2006 model years. Its design, reminiscent of the original GT40, exudes power and performance. The GT features a 5.4-litre supercharged Ford Modular V8 engine, generating exhilarating power. With its sleek lines, rear mid-engine layout, and rear-wheel drive, the Ford GT embodies the spirit of racing heritage. The car was brought to life by a team that included designer Camilo Pardo, under the guidance of J Mays, and the legendary race car driver Ken Miles. Although visually related to the GT40, the modern GT stands taller, wider, and more imposing, making it a true testament to Ford’s commitment to automotive excellence.

The production of the Ford GT commenced in June 2004 and continued until September 2006, resulting in a total of 4,038 units. The assembly process involved multiple locations: it began at the Mayflower Vehicle Systems (MVS) in Norwalk, Ohio, and then moved to the Saleen Special Vehicles (SSV) facility in Troy, Michigan, where the car received its distinctive paint and final assembly. With a curb weight of 1,581 kg, this sports car delivers an exhilarating driving experience, paying homage to its historic predecessor and capturing the hearts of automotive enthusiasts worldwide. Whether on the track or the open road, the 2005 Ford GT remains an enduring symbol of speed, craftsmanship, and engineering excellence.
